Sample sentences in English for writing papers

Để viết bài báo bằng Tiếng Anh không phải là việc dễ dàng, nhưng cũng không quá khó nếu bạn chịu khó luyện tập.

Vì sao viết Tiếng Anh lại khó đối với sinh viên Việt Nam ?
Có nhiều nguyên nhân (tôi chỉ giới thiệu một số khó khăn nhất định):
- Tiếng Anh là ngoại ngữ.
- Họ ngôn ngữ biến hình: có chia động từ, động từ quy tắc, bất quy tắc, số ít, nhiều, thì (tense)...
- Có quá nhiều ngoại lệ.
- Phải tránh lỗi đạo văn (plagiarism), nên phải diễn dịch lại (paraphrase). ==> Điều này cực kỳ khó cho người bắt đầu, nó buộc bạn phải hiểu rõ nội dung, diễn dịch lại bằng cách khác, mà không làm sai lệch nghĩa.

Trong bài viết này, tôi đề cập đến một số mẫu câu thường dùng trong văn viết bài báo khoa học. Ta sử dụng các mẫu câu này như công thức toán. Nó được dùng như để tham khảo, cũng như một tra cứu mì ăn liền cho quá trình viết bài :-) 

0. Mẫu câu để giới thiệu, bắt đầu : 

• Not too long ago, ... (dùng past tense, or past perfect). 
• Generally speaking, ... 
• First of all/Firstly/Secondly/Recently/ More recently... 
• In the past,.. 
• The main focus of this research lies on ... something... to be used as X as well as Y.

1. Mẫu câu dùng để nhấn mạnh tầm quan trọng của vấn đề - Highlighting the Important of Research: 

• X is therefore expected to be Y
• However, X is unlikely to be the single Y for Z
• Knowledge of X is therefore valuable in understanding and investigating Y
• Knowledge of X provide valuable information for modelling Y and Z
• Information on X is therefore valuable in interpreting Y
• Currently, there is particular interest in developing X and Y
• Currently, there is particular interest in developing X for Y, in order to investigate the A and B with C
• Thus, X are expected to invest available Y in Z , rather than A
• Variations between X and Y have also been attributed to Z and T
• In assessing X and Y, it is therefore critical that Z or T is taken into account.
• X is XX. In contrast, Y is YY. Thus, T is expected to Z.

2. Mẫu câu dùng để chỉ ra những chỗ còn thiếu - Gap language:

• Although substantial recent advances have been made regarding X, our understanding of the process of Y remains incomplete.

• Although there are several studies on X, information on Y is limited.
• Several studies have presented X and Y, but few have gathered sufficient samples of Z to allow T and U.

• (sẽ bổ sung thêm, tuy nhiên có thể cân nhắc sử dụng các mẫu câu ở mục 1, 2 nếu phù hợp... :-)

4. Mẫu câu cho bình luận kết quả nghiên cứu - Language for commenting on research findings

• However, X; therefore Y. Example: however, the sampled by AthorX were only 3000 samples; therefore the Z performance is likely to be biased towards larger samples.
• Language for expressing a higher degree of certainty when evaluating findings
• Clearly indicates X
• X shows a strong correlation Y
• This seems to suggest that X
• This strongly indicates that Y
• X has been suggested Y, but it is unclear whether Z is because of T or U
• In contrast, X seems to be somewhat brief, which may reflect Y
• X undoubtedly increase Y

Tất nhiên, đây chưa phải là tối ưu, nhưng hy vọng với bi nhiêu công thức đó, hy vọng là sẽ giúp các bạn phần nào trong việc viết bài. 

Ngoài ra, việc học thông qua nghiên cứu một số bài báo hay, chuẩn (chọn các bài trên các tạp chí uy tín) để rút ra cách viết, mẫu câu mà tác giả hay dùng cũng là một cách học tốt.
